If you license a pet with us, we collect information required in your area to issue the licence, which may include your name, contact information, payment information, emergency contact information, information about your pet, and other information that is required to issue a licence in your area, such as your date of birth. The HomeSafe® Smart Tracker device can also collect a number of health indicators for your dog, as we describe below. We also collect information you choose to give us, for example, if you contact us, or post to our Site.
- What we do with the Personal Information we Collect. We use the personal information we collect to provide services to our Licensing Body partners, and to provide the services you have requested. Primarily, this consists of processing pet licences, sending you notice when your licence is due for renewal, and processing orders for our goods and services, such as offering notices of lost pets or customizing a pet tag, delivering your purchase, and processing your payment. If you purchase the HomeSafe® Smart Tracker, depending on your settings, we use information collected by the HomeSafe® Smart Tracker and your mobile device to locate your dog, to show you the relative positions of your dog and your mobile device on a map, and to provide you with certain health indicators for your dog. - When we Disclose Personal Information. The information we collect for pet licensing is shared with the Licensing Body where you live, such as your municipality. Information collected for DocuPet services may be shared with our service providers. You may also withdraw your consent to processing of your personal information, however, this will not affect processing where the applicable law allows processing without consent.
About DocuPet
DocuPet offers a platform through which individuals in Canada purchase or use goods and services. For example, on the Site you may choose to purchase goods such as collars and/or tags for your pet or to register for services in relation to lost pets. We call these the “DocuPet Services”.
In some areas, the Services may include a pet licensing service that helps participating municipalities, government agencies, or other entities responsible for the licensing of pets, or contractors acting for such (each a “Licensing Body”) issue and renew pet licences online (“Licensing Services”).
The DocuPet Services are provided to you by DocuPet. The Licensing Services are provided by DocuPet on behalf of a Licensing Body and are distinct. For example, individuals in Canada who live in a jurisdiction where we do not offer Licensing Services may still use the DocuPet Services to make a purchase.
When you use the DocuPet Services, you are transacting with DocuPet, and the personal information you provide is controlled by DocuPet. Likewise, when you use the Licensing Services to obtain or renew a licence for your pet, the personal information you provide for this purpose is controlled by your Licensing Body. If you use both the DocuPet Services and the Licensing Services, some of your information may be controlled by DocuPet and your Licensing Body separately. The Licensing Body may also provide us with personal information for the Licensing Services. In this case, we process this information to provide our services to the Licensing Body under a contract we have with them. While we describe some of the processing of information we do for Licensing Bodies in this Policy, different Licensing Bodies may have different privacy practices. You should carefully read any privacy notices that may be provided by your Licensing Body, including on our Site. Similarly, if you have any questions regarding the practices of your Licensing Body, you should direct those questions to your Licensing Body.
If you use both the DocuPet Services and the Licensing Services, (for example, by making a purchase from DocuPet, and licensing your pet with your Licensing Body), some of your information may be controlled by both your Licensing Body and by DocuPet. For example, most Licensing Bodies will require the addresses of the people who license a pet. If you make a purchase from us, we also need your address to deliver your purchase. In this case, your address is separately controlled by your Licensing Body under its notices and bylaws, and by DocuPet under this Privacy Policy.
If DocuPet ceases to provide Licensing Services to your Licensing Body, the information that you have provided, or which has been provided to us by the Licensing Body, for the purpose of providing Licensing Services will be transferred to the Licensing Body, which they control, and for their ongoing use. If some or all of that information is also controlled by DocuPet, we will retain a copy of that information for our ongoing use pursuant to this Privacy Policy and our Terms of Service.
Consent
By using the Service, you consent to the collections, uses, and disclosure of your personal information by us, as described in this Privacy Policy and our Terms of Service. You have certain choices regarding how DocuPet processes your personal information. For more information about your choices, Click Here.
When you license your pet with your Licensing Body on the Site, you also agree to the collection of your personal information by that Licensing Body, in accordance with its bylaws and any notices that may be provided to you by the Licensing Body, including on the Site. Different Licensing Bodies may collect different information, and may process it in different manners. As a result, you should always read all privacy related notices from your Licensing Body, in addition to this Privacy Policy.
You may have the option to obtain Licensing Services (if they are available in your area), DocuPet Services, or both.

How The HomeSafe® Lost Pet Service Processes Personal Information
The HomeSafe® Lost Pet Service (“Lost Pet Service”) allows users to share information with other users, including information you designate in your Account and a lost pet report should you submit one. The Lost Pet Service has two components;
- a “Public Profile”, which allows you to make certain information about yourself and your missing pet available to people who have the alphanumeric code located on your pet tag (the “Tag ID”), by controlling your settings as described in this section, and
- a “Lost Pet Listing” which allows you to post a public listing on the Site if your pet becomes lost.
You can choose to make a Lost Pet Listing, or a Public Profile, or both, and control the information you share through these tools as described below.
Public Profile
You can choose the conditions under which your Public Profile information can be viewed by members of the public, and may set information within the Account to either, “Never display”, “Only display when a pet is lost”, or “Always display”. By default, all fields other than your email address are set to “Only display when a pet is lost”. Email address is set to “Never display” by default.
When information is set to “Always Display” that information may be viewed by members of the public who have entered the Tag ID on the Site, for example, if a person has located your pet bearing that Tag ID. When information in your Public Profile is set to “Only display when a pet is lost”, if you report to us that your pet has been lost, information with this setting may be also viewed on the Site by members of the public who have entered your Tag ID. Information set to “Never Display” may not be viewed by members of the public on the Site regardless of whether you have reported your pet missing or whether a person has your Tag ID.
For clarity, although your Public Profile is not designed to be accessed by anyone who does not have your Tag ID, regardless of your settings, it is not possible to guarantee the security of any information online. As a result, you should exercise caution when choosing to post information to your Public Profile.
You may change the settings for your Public Profile in the Profile Settings page of your Account. This information can include pet owner name, pet owner contact information, secondary pet owner information, pet name, pet species, pet breed, pet colour, pet age, pet sterilization status and proof of sterilization, pet rabies vaccination expiration date and proof of rabies vaccination expiration date, secondary contact information, veterinary clinic information, pet care instructions, pet obedience levels and behavioural attributes, pet photos, and many other types of pet owner and pet information. If you submit a Lost Pet Listing, that listing may link to this Public Profile.
Lost Pet Listing
If your pet goes missing, you may choose to post a public Lost Pet Listing. The Lost Pet Listing may be viewed by members of the public who visit the Site, regardless of whether they have your Tag ID. The Lost Pet Listing allows you to post information about your missing pet that you choose, such as your pet’s name, description, the circumstances under which they went missing, where they were last seen and other information you choose to place in the Lost Pet Listing. If you choose, you can also link portions of your Public Profile to the Lost Pet Listing, including the information described under the section on Public Profiles above. If you do, that information may also be viewed by visitors to the Site, regardless of whether they have your Tag ID.
In all cases, you are solely responsible for the personal information you share through the Service and we cannot guarantee the privacy or security of any information shared by you with other users.
Please note that once information has been published online, it is not always possible to remove it, and that DocuPet cannot control, and is not responsible for what third parties who view such information may choose to do with it. Always think carefully, and exercise caution when publishing personal information.
HomeSafe® Smart Tracker Service
The HomeSafe® Smart Tracker Service is a subscription service that offers a pet dog location tracking, activity tracking, and health indicator monitoring service that operates through the use of a tracker device that your dog wears, and a mobile application that you install on your mobile device.
Using the HomeSafe® Smart Tracker Service, you can record and keep track of information about your dog using the mobile app and your mobile device. This information includes:
- The location of your dog (n.b. all references to the “location of your dog” refer to the location of the Smart Tracker device, which can only track the location of your pet while attached to them in accordance with any instructions that may be provided in the device manual),
- Historic dog location information,
- Activity information related to your dog, both current and historic consisting of:
- number of hours at rest
- number of minutes at various activity levels ex. walking, running
- additional activity data in beta testing ex. number of minutes eating, drinking and
- Health indicators related to your dog, both current and historic consisting of:
- resting heart rate
- resting respiratory rate
- heart signature
The HomeSafe® Smart Tracker device is able to track the location of your dog while they wear the Smart Tracker device in the following manners:
- If you have Bluetooth permission enabled on your mobile device for the HomeSafe® Smart Tracker App, then you may be able to view the location of the Smart Tracker device. This permission determines both the location of your mobile device, and the location of the HomeSafe® Smart Tracker device.
- The Smart Tracker device may be able to detect its proximity to a public database of nearby WiFi nodes, and you may be able to view the location of the Smart Tracker device on your mobile device.
- The Smart Tracker device may be able to track its location using GPS.
If you have “Location Services” active on your mobile device, you may also be able to view the location of the Smart Tracker device relative to the location of your mobile device. To provide this feature, with your permission, the HomeSafe® Smart Tracker App collects both the GPS location of your mobile device, and that of the HomeSafe® Smart Tracker device, so that you may view both of these locations on a map.
You control the settings on your mobile device, and can choose to turn off both Location Services, and Bluetooth. You may turn each of the location collections described above on and off separately. However, if you turn one of these features off, the features of the HomeSafe® Smart Tracker Service that rely on these settings will not function while they are off.

We may also share your personal information with:

- certain third parties such as supervisory authorities, tax authorities, police and other regulatory authorities, if we are required or permitted to do so by law;
- other third parties to whom you have given consent to share your information via the Service; and
- companies that we intend to merge with or be acquired by in the context of a re-organisation, acquisition, merger, bankruptcy proceeding, or another corporate transaction. We may also share information if any such transaction is proposed.
If DocuPet ceases to provide the Licensing Services in your area, the information that is necessary for obtaining and managing a pet licence in your area, including any historical information, will be transferred to the applicable Licensing Body.
